April 5th – Happy Easter

Day 2: Well… You Can’t Win ’Em All 😅

Today definitely didn’t have quite the same sparkle as yesterday—but hey, that’s part of the adventure, right?

The weather decided not to cooperate… cold, gray, and just kind of blah. But we pushed on and made it into Chicago to officially kick off Route 66. We found the starting point (success!), but between traffic and the chaos of downtown, it turned into more of a drive-by photo op than the big moment we imagined. Still counts!

From there, we were all set to cruise along historic Route 66… except our GPS clearly had other plans. And not just one GPS—multiple ones. Gotta love technology! That little detour cost us about an hour, but we tried to make the best of it.

We regrouped and made a stop at the iconic Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket—a classic Route 66 spot and clearly a favorite, because it was packed. We kept it quick with a pit stop and photo, but it was fun to finally see one of those legendary roadside places in person.

Next stop: Pontiac— Such a cute Route 66 vibe with tons of history. We found a great local spot for our Easter dinner (wings, fried pickles, burgers), but by the time we finished, it was already getting dark.

So… tomorrow morning = mural hunt 🎨. Because this town is FULL of them, and we’re not missing that.

All in all, a longer day than we expected, a few wrong turns (okay… a lot 😆), but that’s kind of the whole point of this trip—figuring it out as we go and enjoying the ride.
